First English Reaches Out To The Community

First English Lutheran Church held its second We Care Weekend on April 25—27, 2008.  The goal of the weekend was to involve as many members as possible in a variety of outreach projects in the community.  It truly was a time for caring, sharing, and serving.

The weekend activities began with a Friday night supper and informal worship service.  On Saturday one group of members made quilts to be delivered to the Neighbor’s Place along with a donation of food.  Other members cleaned our mile of highway 39, raked yards for Faith in Action, built picnic tables for Waypost Bible Camp, did chores at the Neighbor’s Place, and helped with activities at Colonial Manor.  On Sunday Shalom Circle, along with spouses and friends, pre-

pared and served the Community Supper at First Presbyterian Church.  The placemats were decorated  by the Sunday school students.

For our final activity there will be a blood drive on Tuesday, April 29 at the church between 3 and 7.

The success of We Care Weekend was measured by the smiles and positive comments of participants and those who benefited.
