Today and continuing through
Lent:
Journey through the Psalms --
Dr. Denise Dombkowski Hopkins will lead us via DVD
as we look at the psalms as “a school of prayer.” Psalm language helps us
understand God and our relationship to God, who we experience as both present
and absent. We’ll explore models of prayer allowing us to be honest about the
full range of our emotions--fear, praise, anger, thanksgiving, joy and despair.
Although this is a series, each week’s lesson is complete in itself, so come
whenever you are able.
You’re Invited to a Planning Forward Meeting…
with Bishop
Justman on Wednesday, February 24, following the evening Lenten service. Bishop
Justman will
meet with the Church Council and interested congregation members
to discuss the steps we need to take to call a great pastor to help us lead
First English. We’ll meet in the Fireside Room. See you
then!
Join Us As We Dedicate…
our new Handicap
Accessibility area! Next Sunday, February 21, 2010
Following each service on next
Sunday, we will gather at the handicap entrance in the front of the church
(lecturn side) and have a brief dedication service,
followed by a walk-through of the area to the library/office area. Refreshments
will follow in Fellowship Hall. Through all the days of and weeks of renovation,
this area has become a beautiful addition to our church building and will be a
welcoming asset for all who come to worship and enjoy fellowship here at First
English. Come and be a part of this dedication!
A New Book Study…
will be
starting in February. “Making Sense of
Scripture” by David J. Lose invites the reader to engage in a conversation
about seven major questions of the Bible. Published by Augsburg Fortress, this
book is part of the foundation for the ELCA’s “Book of
Faith” study series. It is fairly easy reading and in everyday language. There
are reflection questions in the book and in a separate leader’s guide. A group
will meet on Sunday evenings beginning this evening, Feb. 21, 6:30 p.m., at
Kiepers’. There are 7 sessions, with frequency and
length of the study to be determined. Call Kathy at 359-8592 if you’d like to be
part of the study. More groups can be formed at other times if there is enough
interest.
